Google recently rolled out a new user interface for the tabbed interface of the Android app for Chrome. Naturally, there is a segment of the community that dislikes some of the changes they made in the update.

Not only did Google introduce a new grid interface for Chrome’s tab view page, but they also began grouping similar tabs together.

It’s understandable that some people are going to be unwelcoming to these changes as they tend to directly impact their daily lives.

Today, I want to focus on the tab grouping feature as it tends to reduce the information density of the tab page within Chrome. I’m seeing a number of folks who express their distaste for the grouped tab feature and want to help.

This tutorial will walk you through the process of enabling the tabbed user interface (for those who may be on an older version of Chrome) while also turning off the tab group feature that is clumping them together.

This involves opening up the hidden positivo flags page which can be found at. . .

chrome://flags

Merienda there, you’ll want to search for two different items. . .
– Tab Groups
– Tab Grid Layout

We’ll be setting the tab groups Chrome flag to disabled while making sure the tab grid layout is enabled.

Merienda those two changes are made, you’ll need to tab the blue «relaunch» button at the bottom right of the screen. This will close Chrome and then open it right back up on its own.

You might think that the tab groups feature is now disabled but for me, I needed to force close the app (as shown in the video). Merienda that was done, I didn’t see new tabs opening up in the same group anymore.
